ENDANGERED ANIMALS IN THEIR HABITAT

This term we have been studying about endangered animals and the importance of protecting and preserving their habitat.

Having been on camp students saw the animals in their natural habitat. Keeping this in mind they sketched an animal of their choice and used paint to hi-light special features of the animals and the environment.

NATURAL DISASTER IN ACTION!

We investigated the use of colours through painting. We have done some artwork based on our Integrated Studies topic, WEATHER and CLIMATE. Students chose a Natural Disaster they wished to research and will present their artwork during their oral presentation.

During Art sessions we have looked at the Colour Wheel and learnt about how to combine colours to achieve harmonious and pleasing results. Through this activity my students have learnt about the Japanese art of Notan.

Notan art is about creating a balance between negative and positive spaces. These are the results of my students efforts.

SUPER HERO MASKS

Students had the opportunity to experience different mediums and techniques in Semester 2. As students explored their creativity they surprised themselves.

With patience, determination, concentration and skill the students created unique pieces of their super heroes on ‘plaster of paris’.

Each of the students received three masks of different sizes- small, medium and large.

They first sketched their superhero on each of their masks. This was followed by the use of different brushes and mixing of colours to get the desired effect. Working with masks of different sizes was a challenge but the final outcome was worth the effort.

The masks will be displayed at the Artshow. They will be mounted on a stand and supported with ice-cream sticks.

BIOGLYPHS- We are all unique and there is no one like me!

The students were introduced to an activity called ‘bioglyphs’ which stands for “bio” (self) and “glyph” (symbol). They referred to an index of symbols and used these to create a picture of themselves.

I used this activity for the second week of the academic year (Getting to know you) and it can be used to play the game, Guess Who!
The students followed instructions and used symbol representations to create an image of themselves.

Still Life

A still life is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter such as commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, dead animals, plants, rocks, or shells) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, and so on)

My students had fun sketching these objects and tried their skill at shading their drawings for effect.

ART IN DIFFERENT FORMS – EFFECT OF MARBLING

SPLOTCHES AND SWIRLS

As part of Book Week celebrations the students created some interesting artwork using paint. They used the tips of the brush to create swirls and splotches. In the background they used a black texta to create a scene of nature so that it stands out in the midst of the colourful swirls and splotches.

MODERN DAY MONA LISA ART

As part of Italian Day celebrations at school, the students were involved in a special assembly, games, special presentation and art activities. The students of Year 5/6 created a modern day Mona Lisa. They had to include a background and dress Mona Lisa in today’s time. They also sketched some Italian artwork which attracted the attention of many.

CHARCOAL SKETCH- ENDANGERED SPECIES

The students were due for camp and in preparation for this occasion they have been learning about endangered species. For this activity they were given several outline pictures of species and were asked to choose one animal and enlarge the picture using charcoal.

ANZAC SOLDIER- FLIPPED IMAGE

The students were given black paper on which they had to draw their ANZAC soldier using the given stencil. Next, they had to draw their own scenery around the soldier. Thereafter, they had to cut the picture and flip the paper to paste the image they cut out. They had to make sure every bit of paper cut, was used to complete their display, so that both sides looked the same.

A great activity that we integrated with the Inquiry Unit on Anzacs , our Maths (Flipped Image) and Art lesson. Having displayed some of the students work on our classroom window it looked like a tapestry and served as a wonderful display.

Well done class! You have done a fantastic job and should be proud of yourselves. I hope you had fun doing this activity.
